Fire door saftey
Smiths Security Services offer a full range of services in relation to fire doors. This includes intermittent pads for hinges and locks, door seals, closers and glass replacement. We will replace fire doors and frames as well as fit new fire brigade (FB) locks. Fire doors are a critical tool keeping a building compartmentalised (sectioning building areas to reduce the spread of fire and smoke). The following is a brief rundown of just a handful of the products installed and replaced.
Fire resistant glass
Smiths will replace broken fire resistant glass, When glass is replaced we always use glass tested to the relevant British standard.
The most common problem we face is damage. incorrect installation or vandalism. The fire door in the photo was fitted in Chineham near Basingstoke, Hampshire.
We always recycle glass removed from doors and windows. Should the glass be non recyclable (for example Georgian wire) but not broken it is offered free of charge to local allotments.
Intermittent strips and Drop seals
Intermittent strip (Right) helps seal the gap between the door and frame from heat or smoke. Common problems we come across are the strip coming away from the door or serious wear over time. We never attempt to reuse old strips , we always replace like for like. The strip in the photo was fitted as a replacement in Andover, Hampshire.
Drop Seals (left) close the gap at the bottom of a door and the floor during a fire. This helps prevent the spread of smoke and fire Oxygen. The seal in the photo was fitter in Reading, Berkshire.
Exit hardware and saftey information signs
There is a number of different types of panic hardware available including pads, bars and exit buttons. The exit types can be fitted so keys or codes can be used to open doors from the outside. The exit bar in the photo was fitted in Andover, Hampshire.
We will replace/install the correct fire information signs including Fire exit keep clear, and Fire door keep locked. The signs can come as a sticker or plastic/metal plate that is screwed to the door. The sign on the right was fitted in Newbury, Berkshire.
Fire brigade locks and fire doors
Fire brigade locks (left) help to isolate areas from the public while still allowing access for the emergency services and authorised people. There are a number of FB locks on the market including padlocks. The lock pictured was installed in Woodley, Berkshire.
