UVPC doors and windows
UPVC (Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride) is a popular material used for windows and doors. No material is perfect and one issue associated with UPVC is movement in warm or cold weather. At Smiths we can attend and adjust hinges or keeps (the part of the door or window that accepts the locking device) so the window or door works perfectly.
UPVC can also scratch or dent. Using our professional kits we can often remove scratches and dents making the doors and windows look as good as new.
Like locks, friction hinges, handles and window stays can also wear out over time. Smiths can remove and replace a wide range of window hinges and handles
Timber doors and windows
Timber is another versatile material used in the construction of doors and windows.
Like UPVC timber can also swell or shrink, with timber this is predominantly caused by water (for example rain). Swelling of doors and windows can make it either hard or impossible to close doors and windows. Smiths can be relied on to attend your property and make wooden doors and windows close correctly. This can involve moving keeps or hinges, or planing of the corners of the doors.
Hinges on doors will also wear out over time and this can cause the door to sag. So Smiths will replace your hinges to prevent door sagging. Hardware such as brass letter boxes can also discolour and fade over time, again this is a problem we can solve by supplying and fitting new ironmongery.
Smiths also replace cracked and broken glass on timber doors and windows alongside our boarding up service.
Aluminium doors
Smiths replace all types of door closers on Aluminium doors including Transom (overhead) and Concealed (under floor) closers.
We also carry out the relevant adjustments to the doors to make them close smoothly and quietly.
